What is Ashihara Karate?
Ashihara Karate is well known around the world as being the modern street style, in part, for its revolutionary system. Every move (strike, footwork, block, sweep or throw) is effective in a street fight with the practitioner envisioning an opponent.
The style relies on the Sabaki method which uses body positioning in order to turn an opponent’s power and momentum against them. The main focus is on the ability to fight against multiple attackers and being able to defend oneself in a “street fight”.
Ashihara Karate is an offshoot of Kyokushin Karate (the strongest karate in the world) and uses traditional and modern Karate techniques as well as integrated techniques from Judo, Muay Thai, Boxing, Jujutsu, Aikido, etc.
The Founder Kancho Hideyuki Ashihara is known as an existed character in the series of comic books and TV Series “Karate Baka Ichidai” /” Karate Master”. The legendary Karateka devoted himself to the pursuit of the most rational and logical karate and founded ASHIHARA KARATE in 1980 to continue his work.

Our history
Sensei Ovidiu Turculet (Robert`s esteemed Teacher and Sensei)
Sensei Ovidiu Turculet began his martial arts journey with Judo before embracing Ashihara Karate in 1986. As a pioneer in this style, he has dedicated his life to its study and instruction, achieving the highest rank in Ashihara Karate, 5th DAN, in Matsuyama, Japan. He is one of the few in the world to attain this prestigious achievement, making him an inspiring martial arts educator.
At The Athletic Kingdom Martial Arts, we deeply value and honor Sensei Turculet’s immense impact on the world of martial arts, particularly in the growth and development of our Head Instructor, Robert Baisan. Since 1994, Sensei Turculet’s guidance has been invaluable. He consistently emphasized integrity, humility, respect, and self-discipline both within and beyond the dojo, transforming Robert into a well-rounded individual, competent instructor, and fighter. His philosophy extended beyond the training mat, teaching Robert to overcome challenges and handle pressure, setbacks, and failures.
